Subject: Communications Campaign to Make Juneteenth a National Day of Observance

Dear Senator:

The National Juneteenth Observance Foundation, which is under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Ronald V. Myers, President, is spearheading a national campaign to make Juneteenth Independence Day a national day of observance.

There are now 32 states, and the District of Columbia, that have made Juneteenth a state observance. The most recent Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Delaware, Alaska, Idaho, Iowa, California, Wyoming, Illinois, Missouri, Connecticut, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, Colorado, Arkansas, Oregon, Kentucky, Michigan, New Mexico, Virginia, Washington State, Tennessee, Massachusetts, North Carolina, West Virginia, South Carolina, Vermont, Nebraska, Kansas and the District of Columbia in recognizing the end of enslavement in America," states Rev. Ronald V. Myers, Sr., M.D., who grew up celebrating Juneteenth in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

I/we are requesting that you support pending legislation being sponsored by United States

Senator Roland Burris (Democrat-Illinois) to make Juneteenth Independence Day a national day of observance similar to Flag Day or Patriot Day.

Thank you in advance for your support.
